Bioelectromagnetism

Pirelli Labs is investigating the possible effect of modulated, low frequency and low intensity electric and magnetic fields on the cellular dynamics, in collaboration with important universities and research centers worldwide.

The primary goal is to show that electromagnetic exposure could be profitably exploited to modify the behavior of cellular cultures, with possible impacts on the yield of important biotechnological productions. As a parallel research line, the group has also shown that similar effects are not present when cellular cultures are exposed to very high frequency radiation: the result gives a comforting answer to the widespread doubts about the alleged "electrosmog" risks in mobile telephone network deployments.
