Distributed Sensor Network

The technological development in the field of microelectronics, sensor applications, technologies and communications protocols, have opened interesting application scenarios for the development of  new generation monitoring systems called Distributed Sensor Network.

These networks are created with protocols and specifics standards based on criteria of flexibility, modularity, scalability, integrability, interoperability.

Pirelli Labs' has focused on the development of a general purpose platform able to run local sensor networks which have been purposely planed to satisfy the needs of specific vertical applications.

These "ad hoc" monitoring networks are designed to run using a huge number and type of sensor in an efficient and low cost capacity.

These sensors are able to be integrate in time as far as number and typology; the networks can also integrate or integrate themselves with others elements according to evolutions of the functional needs.

As a result of the modular structure these systems can be easily enlarged to anticipate future upgrade both on hardware and on standard protocols.

This general purpose technological platform can be "specialized" with suitable sensors according to the different application needs.
