Sustainable Development

Pirelli Labs Materials Innovation has been interested in the field of Sustainable Development within its research projects.

Sustainable Development means the implementation of a novel approach, related to economical, urban and social development, capable of preserving the overall quantity and quality of the resources and natural wealth. The objective is therefore to encourage technological development in harmony with the environment.

In particular at Pirelli Labs new projects have been undergone with applications in the field of Sustainable Building such as the recycling of spent tyres as raw material for acoustic and thermal insulation products, the realization of high performance photovoltaic systems, as well as the development of sensor devices for environmental monitoring.

These projects thus fall into a broader research activity which pays attention to the thematics of energy savings and reduced environmental impact, with interests also in waste site reclamation technology and water purification systems for gray water recycling.
